Acrylic and Discharge Printing

If you want ultra soft custom screen printing on your garments, you should think about using different inks.  Screen printing is a method of garment customization that takes artwork and puts it onto silk screens like a stencil so that you can apply colored inks to an item to customize it.  Depending on the type of ink you use you can achieve different end results.  Acrylic and discharge printing is just screen printing that uses acrylic and discharge printing inks instead of the typical plastisol inks so that you can achieve softer prints.  So if you are interested in learning more, why don’t you stick around and find out?

Acrylic and Discharge Printing

The reason why acrylic and discharge printing is capable of softer ‘hand’ is due to the formulation.  Plastisol inks don’t contain a solvent which means they can be left open without drying up, but that means they need to be ‘cured’ by heat to dry.  A plastisol print will feel tougher and thicker because of this process and that’s not going to work for every garment.  Acrylic and discharge inks contain a solvent, which means you need to be careful to avoid drying them out, but the tradeoff is that the resulting print is much softer.  The ink is thinner and can penetrate deeper which is ideal for all over prints that cross over seams.

What’s the difference between acrylic and discharge printing?  Actually not much at all since discharge printing uses acrylic ink mixed with a discharge agent.  The discharge agent works to remove the existing color of a garment as it deposits the new one so that your desired ink color will be vibrant!  So if you are interested in doing your own acrylic and discharge printing, you can find those services here, along with many others, at AMBRO Manufacturing.  You can easily contact us to place an order or to find out more about us, by email or by giving us a call at (908) 806-8337.
