Do you want to print on lightweight garments, but you’re afraid that regular plastisol ink will way them down too much? Or would you design all over T shirts if it weren’t for the stiffness of all over coverage ink? Did you know that with custom discharge print clothing you can get exactly what you’ve been looking for? Yes, discharge print clothing is custom garments that have been printed using a special water based ink, which leaves practically no “hand” on the fabric!
If you want the softest prints for your screen printed clothing, you can’t do better than discharge printing. How does it do it? Well, the key difference between regular plastisol inks and water based inks is the presence (or lack of) a solvent. Plastisol inks are really microscopic solid pigments suspended in a gel which needs to be cured to set the print as there is no solvent. The curing process stiffens the ink on the surface of the shirt and the more ink that you have, the more noticeable it will feel. With water based inks, those used for discharge print clothing, the evaporation of a solvent is responsible for the curing of the print and it is typically water.
In a discharge print, you have a water based ink mixed with a special discharge agent, which will remove the existing color from a cotton garment and replace it with your desired color. Water based inks, since they are not viscous, penetrate deeper into the fabric and leave behind barely any surface ink. After one or two washes it will feel like you discharge print has always been a part of the fabric!
