Sublimation Printing On Cotton
When attempting to perform Sublimation Printing On Cotton, the results are usually very muted colors and blurry, non-crisp lines. Cotton Sublimation is not advised and is a poor representation of what can be accomplished on polyester fabrics and polyester family members like Rayon, Nylon, Satin, Spandex and others.
One area where Sublimation Printing On Cotton may be desirable is in a mixed media format. For example, at times, a backdrop of a faded and unclear image may be desirable and a point of the artwork. You may want a subdued forest image that takes up the entire face of the shirt, and then screen printing elements on top of that to create the effect that you are looking for in a mixed media presentation.
If the desired outcome on a cotton garment is an all over print, the better approach to Sublimation Printing On Cotton is to use specialized all over screen printing. Companies like AMBRO Manufacturing have specialized screen printing presses that print much wider and longer than standard equipment. The impact of this added ability is a longer and wider screen print, that can be spread sleeve to sleeve and neck to waist.
If the reason why you are considering Sublimation Printing On Cotton is because you don’t like the look and feel of performance fabrics, there are several polyester alternatives that are worth consideration. Brushed Polyester garments mimic the look and feel of cotton, and while not as soft as a 100% cotton garment, they are most definitely a distant cousin to the moisture wicking performance fabrics that you may not desire.
