Wholesale discharge printing is a specific type of water based ink printing where a discharge agent has been added.  All water based inks contain a solvent, typically with water, that must evaporate to set the print.  The discharge agent contained in discharge inks will actually remove the pre-existing color from the garment and replace it with your desired color.  Water based inks have the advantage of being thinner than plastisol inks so they can penetrate the fabric to deposit the color instead of simply lying on the surface as with plastisol inks.  This is how they produce little to no ‘hand’ to the print when it is set.
